The Linden community is grieving the death of Leslyn Major, 48, a senior teacher at Christianburg Primary School. She was killed on Friday afternoon while standing beside Empire Drive in Amelia’s Ward.
Early reports say a car and a truck were involved, and that the car hit Ms. Major. Accounts differ on exactly how it happened. Some say the car collided with the truck and was thrown toward her. Others say the driver lost control while trying to overtake. Police have not yet released an official account.
Ms. Major was taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where she died. The car’s driver is also in hospital.
Friends and colleagues remember her as a former national athlete and a devoted coach. The Region 10 Department of Education called her a “gem” and praised her compassion, professionalism and commitment to children.
Our thoughts are with her family, her students and the wider Linden community.
