A three-year-old boy, Keron Atkinson, is feared drowned after going under in the Essequibo River at Agatash Village, Region Seven, near Bartica. It happened early Friday afternoon. He was reportedly with his seven-year-old cousin at the time.

Police, relatives and villagers searched the nearby waters in the hope of finding him. Police are investigating.

A reminder for riverine families: young children can slip under water in seconds and without a sound. Never leave small children near rivers, creeks or trenches with only other children to watch them. Life jackets save lives.
